| Newton Heath Depot Community Open Day.
Sunday 16th September 2007. Here is a collection of photographs taken at the depot open day. This one of three major train maintenance depots belonging to Northern Rail in the North of England. The other two depots being Neville Hill in Leeds and Heaton in Newcastle. The depot services 115 trains that operate all over the North West of England. The Newton Heath fleet comprise of class 142, 150 and 156. 153 and 158 sometimes visit the depot. The depot can do most of the servicing and maintenance required for the fleet. As well as this and cleaning, the depot also carries out two heavy maintenance programmes, these are the 'C4' & 'C6'. 'C4' programme covers everything below the sole bar of the train ( the frame supporting the actual body shell). The 'C6' programme covers most things above the sole bar - the actual bodywork but also seating, tables and other internal fittings. There is also a newly opened paint shop opened at the depot. The open day included tours around the site, the Network Rail/Serco Railgrinder, BTP display, visiting locos from East Lancs Rly of BR Standard 76079 and Class 20 - 20087. The Newton Heath Traction Group had D5600 which was named 'Newton Heath TMD' on the day. Also various units in and around the depot complex. A shuttle train operated from Manchester Victoria station to Dean Lane station. This was worked by 150268+150269. Below are my photos from the day. |
